GAFFER'S
THOUGHTS

It is a really exciting and pivotal time for the club! A fresh Chairman, a Director of Football, a wave of new volunteers, and a solid mix of experienced leaders and young talent in our squad is a classic recipe for building a great culture.

The positive buzz off the pitch makes a massive difference, as it gives the players a strong foundation to build on.

In our first fixture, we didn't know too much about Immingham, but coming from Step 7 and playing their first game at Step 6, we knew they would be up for it.

We had a game plan to nullify them: drain all their excitement and play the percentages due to the pitch and the very windy conditions.

In the first 45, we should've been six up. Unfortunately, we spurned a couple of chances, but going in at half-time 3–0 to the good, we all would've taken that.

Immingham had a 10-minute spell during the second half, but our back four coped really well and cancelled out any threat. A lapse in concentration led to Immingham's penalty. Buzzing for Ollie Bowes, who’s been tremendous in training and pre-season and deserved his goal at the end to put us 4–1 up.

The lads were disappointed not to keep the clean sheet, and that shows the mentality in the group.

We look forward to today’s fixture against Harrogate Railway Athletic, and on behalf of the management and players, I'd like to thank everyone for coming along to today’s game and for the continued support from our supporters, sponsors and everyone at the club.

Danny South

Danny South has committed to Doncaster City for the upcoming season.

Southy brings a vast amount of non-league experience to City, notably being a big part in leading Hallam's promotion to Step 4 before moving back to former club Belper Town to help them reach the play-off final.

The centre-back and centre-forward will add plenty of physicality and immense aerial prowess in both boxes, as well as great quality from playing higher up in non-league. This move is a sign of our intentions this season and we can't wait to see what Danny can bring to the side, and how his experience can impact some of the younger talent at the club.

Chairman's Notes

"

To say pre-season has been pretty manic is an understatement…

Having to start from scratch again has been challenging, on and off the field, but I feel we have managed to get the right team together, not only on the pitch but off it too, surrounding myself with, what I think, are the people to move us forward as a club.

Last Saturdays first game of the season couldn’t have gone any better, as getting the first win is really important and we need to look to kick on from here.

The next game against Harrogate will be a real show of where we’re actually at, as they have carried on last seasons great form, but we’ll be up for it and the lads know a win would be huge at this early stage.

Thanks for the support so far, everyone has been amazing.

Cheers

Chaps

"

A very warm welcome to everyone joining us for today’s fixture, which promises to be a fantastic game of football against Harrogate Railway Athletic in our first home fixture for the 2026/27 season.

As this is my first season at Doncaster City FC, I would like to say what a privilege it is to be joining the club. I am incredibly grateful for the warm welcome I have received from everyone across the club and for the trust placed in me to take on this role. I look forward to repaying that trust through good, old-fashioned hard work and by making a positive contribution to the club’s future.

We’ve started the season on a really positive note, and with so much work taking place both on and off the pitch from the owners, committee, staff, management team, players and volunteers, it’s great to see such a positive atmosphere around the place.

Our vision as a club is to strengthen our footballing structures and create sustainable progress. This will take time, hard work and collaboration, but we are making the necessary steps to reach our targets.

As we move onto our next chapter our aim is to share as much of the club with our supporters as possible, from regular updates via our social media platforms and continually focusing on engaging with our local community.

On the pitch our squad has a fantastic mixture of both youth and highly experienced players showcasing the club’s ability to generate a pathway for young players into senior football.

First-team manager John Powney has shown pride, energy and a clear commitment to helping the club improve in many areas, both on and off the pitch. JP has facilitated an incredible number of opportunities for young players since taking over, showcasing a strong track record in youth development. He has now added well-known and highly experienced players to our ranks, creating what we believe is a very competitive squad. We back JP, the management team and the players as we look forward to an exciting season in the club’s second year in NCEL Division One.

We would like to thank our incredible supporters and sponsors for their continued support, as well as everyone attending today’s fixture. I hope you enjoy what has all the ingredients for a thrilling match and continue to get behind the club throughout the season.
